OK everybody, here we go! It’s time for the Second Annual Haunted Fresno Scavenger Hunt! This year a few things have changed. We learned a lot from last year, and a hunt that we thought would take a few days took about 6 hours and it was OVER! Not this time! BE PREPAIRED, IT WON’T BE THAT EASY THIS TIME! This time it will take you more than a day to complete the hunt. Certain prizes (like the iPad 2) will have stopping points that won’t continue until the next day. You won’t have to spend all day, just part of it until you find the stopping point, and you will be informed of when to start up again.
This year we have changed the method of delivering clues as well. Everything will be done through “QR” bar codes. How do they work you ask? Good question, let’s get to it.
How do QR codes work?
QR codes, or quick response codes, is a type of 2D bar code that may be decoded using your smartphone with a QR code reader. From being a tracking mechanism for auto parts, QR codes have proven to be very useful in marketing and convenience related applications that is more suitable for smartphone users. In the recent months, we have seen QR codes show up on marketing materials such as movie posters, promotional posters for various products, billboards, flyers, among other things. These have also been seen on newspaper ads, business cards, artwork, and other everyday things.
There are two main things that you have to have when you deal with QR codes:
1. A mobile phone with a camera and Internet connectivity
2. A QR code reader

Where do I get a QR code reader?
Most smartphones coming out nowadays have a QR code reader already installed. For some, you would need to download the reader and install it yourself. You can find a free reader for your phone by clicking the “Get a reader” link to the side.
How do you scan the QR code?
After you have your reader installed, fire up the application and snap a picture of the QR code. Make sure that your hand is steady and that you are able to include the whole code into the picture. There will be some instances when the scan would fail, do not worry, just keep on snapping.
Now that you know how it works, practice up! The hunt will launch Monday the 17th at approximately 6am. REMEMBER THIS WILL TAKE MORE THAN 1 DAY TO COMPLETE, AND IN SOME CASES UP TO A WEEK. If you want it bad enough you will find a way, and it won’t be easy. But hey, someone WILL win it!
GOOD LUCK!
